For staff and students who need to use the HKUST Card to conduct electronic functions, the following is a list of requirements of their PC for efficient operation:

• Personal Computer
  Minimum requirement - Intel Core i3 computer with 2GB memory
• Operating System
  Windows 7 / 10
• Web browser
  IE 8 or above; Firefox (ESR version)
• SmartCard Reader (with corresponding drivers)
  • Basic requirements:
    • USB Full Speed Interface
    • CCID Compliance
    • PC/SC Compliance
    • ISO 7816 Class A, B and C (5V, 3V, 1.8V)
    • ISO 14443 Type A & B, Mifare
    • EMV Compliance
    • supports Plug-and-Play on Windows
    • supports Windows 7 / 10
  • Additional features that would be preferred include:
    • support for PC/SC Lite and OCF
    • uses landing-type contact to smart cards
    • USB Firmware Upgradability
• Additional software to interface with the HKUST Card
  Apart from the above, the user PC will have to be further configured with additional software routines and run-time libraries to interface with the HKUST Card. These include
  • security modules specifically developed for the HKUST Card
  • smartcard related Java routines/libraries, etc.
