Things to do after receiving your HKUST Card (for students)

It is recommended that you go through the steps below to secure/validate your HKUST Card as soon as possible after receiving it. You will need your ITSC network account to carry out the process. If you do not have such an account, click here for information on what to do.

  • Go to a Computer Barn and logon to Student Intranet
     in any PC. ( PCs there are already equipped with smartcard readers)

  • Select Manage My HKUST Card under "My Studies->Miscellaneous" and perform the following:

    • Change your Personal Identification Number (PIN)

A Card PIN accompanies your HKUST Card. The value of this PIN is set to your date of birth (in yyyymmdd format) at the time of issue. In the exceptional case that your date of birth is not in the system, the default PIN will be your student number.

You should use the Change PIN on card function to change your default Card PIN to a PIN of your own choice immediately and keep the new PIN in strict confidence. You will be asked to present this Card PIN to carry out card-related functions in the future.

    • Verify your data (and update as necessary)

Use the View data on card function to verify the information that is recorded in the chip. If you find any discrepancy in the data recorded on the chip, you should update the data by selecting the Update data on card functions.
